Bernique Guesthouse

The rooms are clean and roomy. Each comes with air conditioning, a fan, a small fridge and a walk-in shower, and each has its own small terrace. Guests mention a TV and the use of a dryer. One family stayed comfortably with two small children. The rooms themselves are plainly furnished and basic, and the appeal is in how well they are kept rather than in any extra polish.

The guesthouse is run by a team of women, and their welcome is the reason many guests return to it in their notes. Sylvania manages the place, with Anna Rose, Marielee and Beryl named warmly for their help and kindness. The rooms are cleaned daily. Breakfast is generous and fresh, with fruit, juice, cake, cheese and an egg, and guests single it out again and again. More than one review describes the hospitality as gracious.

The guesthouse sits between the road to Grand Anse and the path to Anse Source d'Argent, which puts two of La Digue's best-known spots within easy reach. The rooms are basic, some guests note there are no safes, and reports on wifi conflict, with one recent guest saying there was none in the rooms at the time. Set against the breakfast, the cleanliness and the kind all-women team, guests still call it great value.

La Passe is where the ferry from Praslin lands, so arriving is simple and no car is needed. La Digue runs on bikes and on foot, and Bernique sits between the road toward Grand Anse and the path leading to Anse Source d'Argent. Both are a short ride away on a rented bicycle, easy to hire near the jetty. The village itself has shops, small eateries and the boat dock within walking distance. Anse Source d'Argent, with its granite boulders and shallow water, is the island's most photographed beach, while Grand Anse on the east coast is wider and wilder. From the Praslin ferry the crossing takes about fifteen minutes.
