How taxis work in the Seychelles

Getting around the Seychelles is different from a big city, and it helps to know how before you arrive. There is no Uber, Bolt or any ride-hailing app in the country, so you cannot just tap your phone for a car. Instead there are licensed taxis, hire cars and public buses, and for most visitors a mix of pre-booked taxis and a hire car works best.

Taxis are licensed and officially metered, but in practice visitors are almost always quoted a fixed price for the journey. That is fine, as long as you agree the fare before you set off. Booking ahead with us takes that worry away completely, because the price is confirmed in writing on WhatsApp and the driver is expecting you.

Ride-hailing
There is no Uber or Bolt in the Seychelles, so book a taxi ahead
Fares
Officially metered, but usually a fixed price, agreed before the trip
Where to find one
Ranks in Victoria and Beau Vallon, hotel reception, or pre-booked with us
Payment
Mostly cash, card can be arranged, agree the fare first
Airport
Taxi rank at arrivals, or a pre-booked transfer with meet and greet
Day hire
Taxis can be hired by the hour or the day with a driver-guide
Other islands
Praslin has taxis, La Digue is mostly bicycles
Buses
Cheap public buses cover Mahé and Praslin, but they are slow and stop early

How much is a taxi in the Seychelles?

Taxis are not cheap here, because it is a small island where everything is imported. These are rough guide fares for a private car, always confirmed as a fixed price before you travel:

Around Victoria or Beau Vallon
from about €30 to €40
Airport to Eden Island or Victoria
from about €40 to €50
Airport to Beau Vallon
from about €50 to €70
Airport to Baie Lazare (Four Seasons, Kempinski)
from about €90 to €110
Beau Vallon to the southern beaches
from about €80
Full-day tour of Mahé with a driver
from about €240

Guide prices only, and they vary with the exact route, the time and the number of passengers. Share a taxi to split the cost, and if you plan to travel every day a hire car is usually cheaper. Message us for an exact, fixed quote.

Licensed, certified drivers, fixed prices

Every taxi we book is driven by a licensed, certified Seychellois driver, insured and careful, who knows the island inside out. The price is agreed before you travel, so there is no meter climbing and no haggling at the end. Just a clean car, a good driver and a fare you already know.

Taxi, transfer or rental car?

For your arrival, a private airport transfer is the simplest choice, with a driver waiting at the gate and a fixed price to your hotel. Around the islands, a taxi is perfect for the odd trip, a dinner out or a day of sightseeing with a local driver.

If you would rather explore on your own time, a hire car is better value over several days and lets you reach the quiet beaches and viewpoints whenever you like. Many guests take a transfer on arrival, a taxi here and there, and a car for a few days in the middle. We arrange all of it, with no booking fee.

Seychelles taxi questions

Is there Uber in the Seychelles?

No. There is no Uber, Bolt or ride-hailing app in the Seychelles. Getting around is by taxi, hire car or bus, and the easiest option for visitors is a private taxi booked in advance with a fixed price. Message us your trip on WhatsApp and we confirm the fare and driver before you travel, which is the closest thing to an app and a lot more personal.

How much is a taxi in the Seychelles?

Taxis are licensed and officially metered, but for visitors the fare is usually agreed as a fixed price before the trip. As a rough guide, short hops around Victoria or Beau Vallon start from around €30 to €40, the airport to Beau Vallon is around €50 to €70, and a run to the southern resorts is more. We always quote a fixed price up front, so you know the cost before you get in.

Are there taxis at Seychelles airport?

Yes, there is a taxi rank at the arrivals hall. After a long flight, though, many visitors prefer to pre-book so a named driver is already waiting with a board, the price is fixed, and there is no queue. See our airport transfers page, or just message us.

How do I get a taxi in the Seychelles?

You can find taxis at ranks in Victoria and Beau Vallon, ask your hotel reception to call one, or pre-book a private taxi with us by WhatsApp or the form on this page. Pre-booking is the surest way to have a car ready exactly when you need it, especially for early starts, evenings out and island tours.

Are taxis expensive in the Seychelles?

The Seychelles is a small country where everything is imported, and taxis are not cheap by European standards, especially over longer distances. For a couple of short trips a taxi is easy and worth it. If you plan to move around a lot, a hire car usually works out cheaper per day, and we can arrange one delivered to your hotel.

Do Seychelles taxis use a meter?

Taxis are officially metered, but in practice visitors are almost always given a fixed price for the journey. To avoid any doubt, we confirm the fare in writing on WhatsApp before your trip, so the price is agreed and there are no surprises at the end.

Can I book a taxi for a whole day or an island tour?

Yes. You can hire a taxi with a driver by the hour or for a full day, which is a lovely way to see Mahé with someone who knows the beaches, viewpoints and the best spot for lunch. Tell us what you would like to see and we build a route and a fixed price around it.

Is it safe to take a taxi in the Seychelles?

Yes. Taxi drivers are licensed and the ones we work with are certified, insured and used to looking after visitors. Booking in advance adds another layer of safety, because you have a named driver, an agreed price and a car you can count on.

Are there taxis on Praslin and La Digue?

Praslin has taxis, and we can arrange one to meet your ferry. La Digue is mostly bicycles and a few small vehicles, with only a handful of taxis, so on La Digue most people cycle or walk. We can set up transport on any island, just ask.

Can I get a taxi late at night or very early?

Yes. A pre-booked private taxi runs around the clock, including late dinners, early flights and dawn ferry connections. There is no app to rely on here, so booking ahead is the way to be sure a car is waiting.

Should I take a taxi or rent a car in the Seychelles?

A taxi is perfect for arrival day, evenings out and the odd trip, with no parking and no driving on the left to think about. A hire car is better value and more freedom if you want to explore the quiet beaches on your own time. Many guests do both, and we arrange either with no booking fee.
