Seychelles Bus Schedule (SPTC) — Complete Guide for Visitors

Key Bus Routes for Tourists

All routes pass through Victoria (the capital). There are no cross-island routes — if you want to go from Beau Vallon (north) to Anse Royale (south), you must travel through Victoria and change buses.

Route Destination Approx. Journey Frequency Tourist Interest
22A Victoria → Beau Vallon 15–20 min Limited Most popular tourist beach
1 Victoria → Anse Aux Pins 35–40 min 8 daily Near the airport
5 / 5A Victoria → Baie Lazare / Intendance 45–65 min Limited Anse Intendance (wild beach)
6 Victoria → Anse Gaulette 50–60 min Moderate West coast scenic route
13 / 14 Victoria → Port Launay 40–50 min Limited Port Launay Marine Park
2A / 2C Victoria → Anse Royale 40–50 min Moderate South coast beaches, weddings

Beaches You Cannot Reach by Bus

Some of Seychelles’ most beautiful locations have no public bus service at all:

  • Anse Major
  • Anse Soleil
  • Petite Anse (Four Seasons)
  • Anse Takamaka (limited)
  • Police Bay
  • Anse Forbans

On Praslin, there is no public bus to Anse Lazio or Anse Georgette — the island’s two most famous beaches. A rental car is the only way.

Practical Tips for Bus Travel

  • Fare: SCR 7 (~€0.40) per journey, regardless of distance. Pay the driver in cash when boarding. No change given for large notes — carry small denominations.
  • Bus stops: Not always marked. Look for groups of people waiting by the roadside, or ask a local. Wave to flag the bus down.
  • Last bus: Most routes stop by 6:30–7:00 PM. If you are at a beach or restaurant after this time, you will need a taxi (expensive) or a rental car.
  • Weekends & holidays: Significantly reduced service. Some routes do not run at all on Sundays.
  • Victoria hub: All routes pass through Victoria. To travel between two areas that are not on the same route, you must change in Victoria — which can add 30–60 minutes to your journey.
  • No AC: Buses are not air-conditioned. Windows are open. In the tropical heat, this can be uncomfortable, especially when crowded.

The Real Question: Is the Bus Enough for Your Holiday?

The bus costs almost nothing — but your holiday time is worth everything. A rental car costs less than two taxi rides per day and gives you the freedom to see the real Seychelles.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does the bus system work in Seychelles?

SPTC operates over 40 routes on Mahé. All routes pass through Victoria (the capital) as the central hub. Buses run from approximately 5:30 AM to 7:00 PM on weekdays with reduced service on weekends and holidays. Fare is SCR 7 (~€0.40) per journey. There is no night service and no express services to tourist destinations.

Do buses run at night?

No. The last buses on most routes depart between 6:00 PM and 7:00 PM. There is no night bus service anywhere in Seychelles. If you are at a beach sunset, a restaurant dinner, or an evening event, you will need a taxi or a rental car.

Can I get to Anse Lazio by bus?

No. Anse Lazio on Praslin has no bus service. Even on Mahé, many of the most beautiful beaches have no bus stop. A rental car is the only practical way to reach Seychelles’ best beaches on your own schedule. SeyBooking delivers free to both Mahé and Praslin.

Is the bus the best way to get from the airport?

Route 1 passes near the airport, but buses do not stop at the terminal building. With luggage, the walk is inconvenient. SeyBooking offers free airport delivery — your rental car is waiting at the terminal when you land, with the paperwork already done.

Is it better to rent a car or use the bus?

The bus is fine for budget travellers going to Victoria and back during daylight hours. For anything else — sunset beaches, secluded coves, dinner at a hillside restaurant, exploring at your own pace — a rental car is significantly more practical. From €45 per day with SeyBooking, it costs less than two taxi rides and gives you complete freedom.

How much does the bus cost?

SCR 7 per journey (~€0.40), regardless of distance. Pay the driver in cash. While the fare itself is cheap, most tourists find they supplement the bus with taxis for evening transport and remote beaches — which quickly adds up to more than a rental car would have cost.
