You meet your guide at La Passe and you do not know yet what you have signed up for. The first twenty minutes are flat, a sandy path through takamaka trees, the kind of walk that makes you wonder why you needed a guide. Then the path tilts. Then the granite starts. For the next two and a half hours, you walk, climb, scramble, and at one point lower yourself down a rock face on a rope. Your guide does this every week. You do it once in your life.
The destination is a beach you have probably seen in a magazine. Anse Marron. Hidden on the south coast of La Digue, behind a wall of boulders, accessible only at low tide and only with someone who knows the route. There is no road. No bicycle path. No hotel nearby. The only way in is on foot.
You swim if the swell is right. You sit on the granite if it is not. Either way, you have a beach to yourself.
La Digue is small enough that the southern coast feels like another island entirely. The crowds thin out past Grand Anse. By the time you reach Anse Marron, you have left the Seychelles most tourists see. Three hundred reviews and a near-perfect rating tell you what we already know. This is the most rewarding half day on the inner islands.
| Best for | Travellers who can handle uneven terrain and want to see something they cannot reach on their own. Not suitable for anyone with serious mobility issues. Children from around eight upward, if they are comfortable on rocks. |
|---|---|
| What to bring | Closed shoes, swimsuit, towel, water, reef-safe sunscreen. The guide will brief you on the rest. Lunch is not included but there is time to eat back at La Passe afterwards. |
93% of travellers who booked this gave it a five-star rating, and another 3% gave four. You can read every individual review on the Viator booking page.
