You meet your guide at La Passe and you do not know yet what you have signed up for. The first twenty minutes are flat, a sandy path through takamaka trees, the kind of walk that makes you wonder why you needed a guide. Then the path tilts. Then the granite starts. La Digue is small enough that the southern coast feels like another island entirely. The crowds thin out past Grand Anse.
