Platte Island is a small, low coral island in the southern Seychelles, lying well south of Mahé and the main granite islands, out where the ocean is wide and empty. It is reached only by a scheduled light-aircraft flight, and the whole island is given over to a single resort, the reef and the sea, with no village, no roads and no crowds. The waters around it are shallow, warm and rich, a protected home for turtles, rays and reef fish, and the diving and snorkelling here are among the most pristine in the country. This is the far, wild edge of Seychelles, chosen by travellers who want complete seclusion. Mahé, the main island with the international airport, is the gateway, and the flight out is part of the journey.
