Guests write about giant tortoises and their young wandering the grounds, peacocks, guinea fowl, geese and ducks among the flowers and palms, and a level of planting that more than one reviewer rates against any garden in the south of the island. The villas are called spacious and genuinely luxurious, with large windows, terraces, outdoor showers and a real eye for detail.
The beach is the other half of the story. Intendance is right there, framed by trees and palms that give welcome shade, and several guests describe watching sea turtles come ashore in the evening to lay their eggs in the sand, a rare thing to have on your doorstep. A porch view straight to the ocean, a communal pool that guests call the ideal size and temperature, and long stretches of quiet make this the kind of place people book for a few nights and wish they had booked for more.
Lena, who owns and runs it, and staff members like Polaz are described as warm and genuinely helpful, present when needed and unobtrusive otherwise. One guest called a nine-night stay a wonderland, and that tone, of a place that quietly overdelivers, runs through the reviews. It is a small, personal operation, and the care shows.
The 4.8 rating across nearly a hundred stays is among the strongest in this part of the island, and it is earned by a rare combination, a dramatic beach, a garden full of life, private and comfortable villas, and hosts who clearly love the place. For a quiet, nature-rich stay on the south coast, Domaine Desaubin is hard to better.

A short walk from the villa you have a communal pool which is an ideal size and nice temperature. Then beyond that was a very nice beach which was very private. Anse Intendance is a broad, dramatic beach on the south coast of Mahé, known for its powerful surf, its wide sweep of pale sand and the green hills behind it. The waves can be strong, so it is more a beach for walking, watching and careful swimming than for a calm float, and it stays refreshingly undeveloped, with sea turtles nesting here in season. It is about a thirty to forty minute drive from Victoria and the airport, and a hire car is really needed, but that remoteness is exactly why the beach stays as unspoiled as it does. The luxury Banyan Tree resort shares this stretch of coast.
