La Passe is the small, car-free main village of La Digue, the point where the ferries from Praslin dock and the gentle heart of island life, a place of bicycles, ox-carts and lush gardens rather than traffic. Bakeries, small markets, cafes, restaurants and bike-hire stands are all within a short walk, and a hire bicycle opens up the whole island, from the famous Anse Source d'Argent, reached through the old L'Union Estate plantation, to the wilder beaches of Grand Anse in the east. It is one of the most relaxed and walkable bases in all of the Seychelles, where a stay is measured in pedal-powered days and slow evenings, and the Praslin ferry crossing takes about fifteen minutes.
