The airport and Victoria are each a reasonable drive up the east coast, and the beaches and viewpoints of the south are close. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The rooms weren’t exactly “wow,” but they were very spacious. The area felt a bit unsafe, at least that’s how we felt. It is true that the hotel is close to the beach, but overall, personally, we didn’t feel very comfortable.

Anse Royale is a long, pretty beach on the south-east coast of Mahé, a wide sweep of pale sand with a small rocky islet just offshore that you can wade or swim out to when the water is calm. It is a lived-in local part of the island rather than a resort strip, with a village of shops, takeaways and restaurants, the university campus nearby and families out at the weekend. The reef gives reasonable snorkelling and calm swimming in the right conditions. The airport is about twenty minutes north up the east coast, Victoria a little beyond, and the quiet beaches and viewpoints of the south are close. Mahé is the main island, home to the airport and most of the country's people.
