More About the Stay
The hosting is the heart of it. Lucy and her team are named again and again as warm, caring and endlessly helpful, the sort who point you to the good beaches and restaurants, help you organise a car, and, in one guest's case, turn up with muffins from the Spar. More than one arrival describes being quietly upgraded to a larger villa on check-in. This is small-scale, personal hosting done with real generosity.
The practicalities are easy. A bus stop and a small grocery store sit right in front of the property, and the town of Anse Royale, with its shops and restaurants, is about a fifteen minute walk away, so you are well placed even without a car, though most guests still recommend one for exploring the island.
One honest note, made plainly by guests, is that the closest beach is not the island's finest, which is exactly why Lucy is quick to send you to better ones nearby.

The Area
Anse Royale spreads along the south-east coast of Mahé, a long beach with an offshore reef that shelters part of the bay, backed by a real working town with shops, a market, a university campus and some good local eating. It is a lived-in, everyday part of the island rather than a resort strip, which many visitors prefer. The airport is around twenty minutes north and Victoria a little beyond that. Buses run along the coast road frequently, and a hire car opens up the beaches and viewpoints of the south.
