Bel Ombre is a quiet residential stretch of the north coast of Mahé, just west of the busy beach at Beau Vallon and about twenty minutes by car from Victoria, the capital. It has a calmer, more local feel than its famous neighbour while keeping you within a few minutes of Beau Vallon's dive centres, restaurants and Wednesday food market. The beach here is sheltered and good for swimming and snorkelling, and the waters off the north-west coast are the base for diving and boat trips to the Sainte Anne marine park. Mahé is the main island, with the widest choice of beaches and restaurants, and a hire car or the regular bus makes getting around simple.
